Drug Detox Movie

This movie shows the severe withdrawal symptoms from going cold turkey.

Do you think that this film is a realistic portrayal of a drug addict going through withdrawal symptoms. Or is it more like a movie and not real life?

Is it more difficult to go through drug detox for certain types of people. Or is it about being mentally tough in order to beat your addiction?

Please watch the following movie, before making your comments.

Looking at the video, I'd say that it is a bit dramatized. However, detox can be tough. It depends on the type of drug and the severity of chemical dependency. I saw a guy in a med center for detox that was suffering almost as bad as the guy in the video, but he didn't deliver lines lik tha, he just sat there.

I would have to agree that the video is a bit over-the-top. The severity of withdrawal symptoms depends mostly on the drug one is withdrawing from. Speaking from my own experience, methamphetamine withdrawal wasn't that big of a deal. I had a pretty heavy habit for almost 3 years, and when i arrived at Narconon Arrowhead I was high as a kite. My first day in withdrawal, I had a few minor body aches that I attribute to lack of sleep. The next two days were no big deal. Meth and cocaine is mostly a mental addiction, albeit a very powerfull one. The worst kickers I've seen have been heroine, oxycontin methadone, xanax and alcohol. These drugs are very addictive physically and in the case of xanax and methadone, quitting cold turkey can be quite dangerous.

This is total bullshit to me. Sorry for bringing profanity but its is. That is a soap-opera, and is meant to be dramatized. Of course it was over the top. Get the sticks out your asses & relax so you can be free. Stop using statistics all the time and give an answer with some soul in it.

I recently detoxed at home from 80 mgs of oxycontin. I was on this dose for about a month. It has been 2 weeks since day 1 of my detox and im still only 60% myself. I was taking this drug as prescribed to me for a motor vehicle collision in which i sustained injuries. I was not an addict of this drug and my detox was totally un-necessary;I should have been weened off by my doctor. The detox was one of the hardest things Ive had to face in my life. Not only for me but for my fiancee as well who helped me as good as he could. My symptoms varied by the hour, from extreme pain, restless leg syndrome, nausea, cold sweats, tremours and vomitting non stop for an entire night.
Looking back I am glad that I chose to stick it out in the comfort of my house. We knew to keep an eye on my Blood Pressure and my pulse and that if it turned abnormal, to go to the hospital. In my case the detox was not at all psychological, rather 100% physical. Good luck to anyone out there detoxing themselves. :)

I think it's just a movie. But withdrawal while detox is really hard for the patient to stop the cravings.
