Caffeine Detox Stories
Most of us love a cup of coffee and a can of coke every now and then.
Yet caffeine is a drug and falls into the category of an acceptable drug for consumption. Hence people seem to consume massive amount of coffee while they are working.
Do you think caffeine has a noticeable affect in health or is it completely harmless?
It would be great to read about peoples personal stories on caffeine detox and any associated withdrawal symptoms.

Hello. I am an ex heavy-coffee drinker. Since I quit drinking coffee my health improved and so did my skin condition.I quit drinking coffee about a year and a half ago after going for an allergy test confirming that I had developed an allergy to coffee. What prompt me to get the test was because I was experiencing an occasional migraine attack probably once or twice a month where I got so sick, throwing up and sometimes suffering a diarrhea. It usually starts off with my vision blurring and seeing stars.Needless to say, due to the dehydration, I used to suffer constipation. Sometimes for a one whole week!!I used to start off my morning with a cup of drip coffee, then at lunch time I had my favorite drink, dunkin donut ice latte 4 to 5 times a week , the medium size(500ml?I think they put about 2 shots of espresso), then sometimes after work occasionally I drank another cup of dunkin donut coffee. A year and a half ago I cold turkey quit coffee instead I started drinking tea. My migraine attack lessened to once every two months from every month. Then after 6 months I drank a decaf instant coffee offered by a friend and I thought,"Oh what the heck, it's only decaf."And I knew that instant coffee have lesser caffeine than that of a drip coffee. But I was wrong. About 30 minutes later, I was seeing stars and the migraine came back again.

Hello. I am 27, an ex heavy-coffee drinker. Since I quit drinking coffee a year and 8 months ago, my health improved and so did my skin condition.I quit drinking coffee after going for an allergy test confirming that I had developed an allergy to coffee. What prompt me to get the test was because I was experiencing an occasional migraine attack probably once or twice a month where I got so sick, throwing up and sometimes suffering a diarrhea. It usually starts off with my vision blurring and seeing stars.Due to the dehydration caffeine causes, I used to suffer constipation. About 30 minutes later, I was seeing stars and the migraine came back again. So I don't drink decaf instant coffee either anymore. But about 2 months ago, after more than a year off from caffeine I had another attack of horrible migraine. I came down to tea I drank in the morning and another one at my friend's place in the afternoon.Since then I stopped all together taking any form of caffeine including hot chocolate, coke, tea and coffee. I now drink Redbush tea or rooibos tea from South Africa and plenty of water.I take the tea bags with me wherever I go and if I go to a cafe, I order a hot water. I used to suffer terrible acne but now my skin has cleared and people notice the difference and say how lovely it looks. I am not constipated anymore I am very regular. Thanks to linseeds as well. I read somewhere that caffeine can stay as long as up to a year depending on how much you had. But I am quite determined not to re-introduce caffeine into my diet again. Just the thought of drinking coffee makes me feel nauseous!

Caffeine is often included in lists of addictive drugs, it's just that it is relatively safe and doesn't produce much of a withdrawal effect. I'd be plenty more worried about the widespread availability and acceptance of alcohol consumption. There's something that's definitely not harmless.

I've been going through detox for four weeks now, because of allergies (wheat, grains, dairy, soy products...& a few more). One of things I had to give up for the detox was caffeine. I also quit coffee cold turkey, and except for a mild headache the first day, I'm feeling great! It's amazing how much better I feel. There aren't any more energy dips during the day; my fatigue has pretty much vanished, and I don't miss the caffeine at all.

I quit caffeine about two months ago because of debilitating migraines I'd get on days I missed my daily coffee. The first day I switched to black tea (drank about eight cups that day and still got a headache), and each subsequent day that week drank one mug less. I had headaches nearly every day, and felt like I'd never wake up, but after about two weeks I quit drinking black and green teas as well. The frequency and severity of my migraines has gone down by about half since I quit --- BUT, in two months I still haven't had a day that I've felt truly awake. I've needed to sleep longer and take naps in the afternoon (although waking up is easier and my naps are more productive) in order to stay awake in the evening. Not only that, but I'm grumpy and generally moody. A couple nights ago I asked my boyfriend to make me a cup of coffee because I needed to stay awake that evening. That night and the next morning were the most awake I've felt in two months. And, my boyfriend cautiously told me the next day, I was in the best mood I'd been in in that long, too. I don't think this means I'm going to get back on coffee, because the severity of the migraines far outweighs the need to be awake (and a nice person?), but it's frustrating to me that after all this time my brain still hasn't recovered its natural chemical functions. (Perhaps it's genetic that I can't easily detox from caffeine -- my mom quit a few years ago because of a heart problem, and after eight months off she still hadn't had a day on which she felt awake.)

I quit caffeine 2 weeks ago today. I had terrible headaches from day 2-5...almost migraine strength. My head hurt so much that it was almost debilitating to be awake. After day 5 I stopped noticing the headaches and my mind began to clear. Now two weeks later, I'm off caffeine and drink a ton of water every day instead of liters of diet pepsi. I sleep more soundly, and my energy levels at work have increased. Now that I've changed my habit I don't crave Diet Pepsi as much, and I'm sure as time goes on I will forget how much I use to drink! Oh and the money I'm saving is paying for my pool membership!

Became a truck driver in this lousy economy and I guess I've been hitting the truckstop coffee to much. Parked for a weekend and didn't have my caffeine fix. Got a migraine the next day followed by nausea and eventually threw up. I decided after that experience I need to just cut caffeine. Now I'm trying to just go with juice or water or caffeine free soda.

Hello, I am 23 years old and was just diagnosed with anxiety and put on Zanax, I am a full time student and am about to start my Nursing program. I do not believe that I have some anxiety disorder. I was laying on the couch the other day after eating some lunch and drinking a mountain dew, when the symptoms started, I have this continuous urge to pee (even after I pee) I have tingling feelings in my legs, I get short of breathe and very antsy. It is truly a horrible feeling. I have been looking into caffeine allergies and have discovered that symptoms are very similar. I have also experienced the migraines one to two times a month along with very itchy skin, which was diagnosed as eczema. I am now testing myself, and for the last 2 days I have cut caffeine out of my diet, I guess we will see!!
